Anita's (Your love is better than ice cream......maybe not)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Sunday, September 5, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews

Well Anita's is a story to cool even the hottest bodies. Anita's is the quintessential ice cream shop, with branches in Florintin and Neve Tzedek. My introduction to this fantasitc ice cream was on one fateful evening, 30 degree and 80 % humidity. I met a friend for a dinner near Rothschild Boulevard and she inquired as follows:

"Would you like to go for ice cream?".
"Sure , where were you thinking?, it is very hot maybe somewhere close?"
She quickly intoned "actually, I know a place close by, a...

Loveat (The place of organic coffee........why?)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Saturday, September 4, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
Loveat is a typical Israeli cafe style eatery, and there are a few branches in Tel Aviv. You can get a cup of organic coffee, go outside and sit with all the other smokers and enjoy your cup. Maybe even take a muffin, while enjoying secondhand smoke. Mmm so fresh and so sweet that it can give you a good case of sugar diabetes.
So what is the point of having the organic coffee? In my mind coffee SHOULD be bad for you. If Loveat itself was a restaurant that served only organic food, no sweetene...

Chicken (Not Nando's but damn close)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Friday, September 3, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
Anyone walking down Nachlat Benyamin, close to Allenby, will come across this small but fantastic roast chicken place. For me it is one of the best kept secrets in Tel Aviv, and I am terrible at keeping a secret. The best thing about the place is its simplicity and the place is Kosher. The menu consists of chicken and roast potatoes, yes let me tell you again in case you missed it, roast chicken and roast potatoes. You get it! You can have a choice of 1/4 , 1/2 or full chicken and roast potat...

haSushia (הסושיה)(Quick and nasty)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Friday, September 3, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews

This is a fast food chain of Sushi stores, whose motto is "fast life, easy food". They cater mainly to the take out market and have a small seating section for walk in trade. There are a few branches in Tel Aviv, this blog is about the Rothschild Boulevard store.

The menu is impressive and as confusing as trying to make head or tail of the Beijing telephone directory, the Wu section. If you love puzzles, crosswords, soduku, this menu is for you . If you have a masters degreee or PHD in Engine...

Wolfnights Chef Burgers (For the pack animal...hopefully not from a pack animal)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
Situated on the corner of Nachlat Benyamin and Lilenblum is Wolfsnight Chef Burgers and they serve.....yes you got it burgers. The ambience is very beige with seating on the road and in the restaurant. It again reminds me of an American burger joint.
The menu is on the wall and basically in Hebrew with the main titles in English like "Snacks, Burgers and Specials". So if you have absolutely no Hebrew knowladge the waitron can always translate the main details for you. This can be a fantastic ...

Olive (for those 24 hour cravings)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
Situated on the corner of Herzl and Lilenblum is Olive. It reminds me a little bit of an American Diner, where patrons can sit on it's long bar. There is place to sit outside on the sidewalk as well. This eatery is opened 24/7 to cater for anyone, who after a long night of partying, can come and satisfy their hunger. The menu is not kosher, but is vast, with choices of salads, sandwiches (both meat and dairy) and pasta. It caters to all sorts of tastes and possibly musical preferences, this i...

Odelia (Oh.....Delia! Kosher and Delicious)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
Nestled on Ben Yehuda between Gordon and Ben Gurion is Odelia. The word Odelia is a greek word meaning wealth and oh what a great little gem this restaurant is. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall and boy are looks deceiving. I have always said that if it tastes good, it cannot be kosher. They even have on thier menu in bold, "our food is kosher and delicious". Like the Virgin Mary said "Come again!". Kosher , delicious, value for money and service ...........I THINK NOT!

Well t...

Jeremiah (was a bullfrog)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Monday, August 30, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
Jeremiah, located at 306 Dizengoff, corner Yerimiyahu. Located at a crossroads of restaurants, coffeeshops and pubs, in the heart of Tel Aviv. This is a lovely cafe type restaurant, but not very spacious inside. Basically you have a choice of sitting outside or......outside. They have a non smoking section outside, which must be a first in Israel because basically everyone will sit near you and light up a smoke. So I give them 100% for trying.
The menu is available in both Hebrew and English ...

AM:PM (Your local neighbourhood inconvenience store)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Monday, August 30, 2010 In : Food Stores
Have you ever wondered what happened to the village idiot that moved into the city, or was fired from the village. Have you ever wondered about people who are so useless that even the post office will not employ them. These questions keep me up at night, I have wondered, where do these people work? Finally I have the answer.

Go to any local AM:PM in the greater Tel Aviv area, and they are there, behind the till, or standing in the isles, looking dumbfounded at the daunting tasks ahead of them,...

Hapizza (הפיצה)( For the bloody tourists)

Posted by Brad Hofman on Saturday, August 28, 2010 In : Restuarant Reviews
A lovely pizza parlour located on Bograshov street. This pizza place is central and caters to the tourist and local trade. the menu is dual english / hebrew  and diverse with some interesting house specials.
The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and great pizza's, pasta and salads, it is not kosher but they do not serve any creepy crawlys, meat or other things that go boo in the night. It is possible to make your own pizza and even order a half pizza.  The chefs throw and make the pizza infr...
