This is a fast food chain of Sushi stores, whose motto is "fast life, easy food". They cater mainly to the take out market and have a small seating section for walk in trade. There are a few branches in Tel Aviv, this blog is about the Rothschild Boulevard store.
The menu is impressive and as confusing as trying to make head or tail of the Beijing telephone directory, the Wu section. If you love puzzles, crosswords, soduku, this menu is for you . If you have a masters degreee or PHD in Engineering , or Physics you will love this menu. For mere mortals like myself, I found it very confusing and constantly looking at the pictures on the back side of the menu and cross referencing to the information on the reverse page, slightly annoying. I have a fast life and easy food also means easy ordering as well.
In my mind sushi is not a very complicated food, to eat or prepare. I feel that the hardest part of sushi should be using the chopsticks. The hardest part of sushi ingredients is the rice, get that wrong and everything is wrong. Or so I thought. Well I guess there is more to sushi preparation than meets the eye. On the whole the sushi lacked flavour, vegetables roughly chopped and the sushi was poorly rolled.
In Japan, sushi is complimented by a small amount of soy sauce, the flavour should really come from the fish. In Hasushia and other sushi restaurants in Israel, they provide soy sauce, teriyaki sauce and a spicy mayonnaise. For Japanese chefs ,it is like someone asking for ketchup to put on their sushi. If sushi masters in Japan ever found out, they would hang their heads in shame and request ritual suicide.
In conclusion, Hasushia provides a fast food service for sushi, it is quick and nasty, thrown together and lacks a certain flavour or finesse, but you get what you pay for. But it is not all bad news, the miso soup and wakame salad were excellent. The vegetarian options are quite decent, my advice is to stay away from the fish choices. On the whole, it is value for money, the food is relatively fast. On leaving I saw they were established in 2003, displayed everywhere, I guess we were as surprised they are still around as the owners themselves .
